Alex brings extensive experience in tax policy, regulatory affairs, and public sector leadership, including prior roles with the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

In his new position, he will provide clients with guidance on legislative and regulatory changes emerging from Washington and state capitals while also engaging policymakers and industry stakeholders. The firm said his appointment will help translate complex policy developments into actionable insights that support business strategy and decision-making.

Before joining RSM, Alex served as State Tax Commissioner for the Commonwealth of Virginia, where he supervised the collection of more than $30 billion in state revenue and led a workforce of about 750 employees while advising state leadership on tax policy matters. He also previously held senior advisory roles within federal and state government and served in leadership positions in the private sector.

Stuart Taub, Enterprise Industry and Markets leader at RSM, said, “James’s appointment strengthens RSM’s ability to deliver insights that matter to middle market clients as they modernize, grow, and navigate change.” Alex added, “I’m glad to return to RSM at such an important time for the middle market. The firm has extensive knowledge and insights that help policymakers better understand this vital segment of the economy.”
